After a lifetime working in IT Damian switched career to do something ‘more useful and rewarding with his time’. Initially, working with a Bristol mental health charity as a community support worker helping people achieve recovery goals, and more recently helping young people with special educational needs and disabilities learn how to live independently. This was a natural progression from various volunteer roles he has held in the past including a spell as a Restorative Justice Facilitator.
Volunteering as a Restorative Justice Practitioner was some of the most rewarding and challenging work I’ve ever done. Giving victims a voice, feel heard, supporting them get a resolution that meets their needs and that gives them some kind of peace was immensely fulfilling. When the opportunity to do that work in RJ again as a RJ caseworker with Resolve West, I wanted to get involved and help in any way I can.
