Richard has been a teacher police officer and civil servant at the College of Policing during his career. As a member of the chief officer team at Thames Valley Police he was responsible for the strategy and delivery of, among other things, criminal justice, neighbourhood policing and volunteers in policing. At the College of Policing he was the lead for developing evidence based standards and guidance for uniformed policing professionals which included neighbourhood policing and volunteers in policing. Richard has seen the evidence that restorative justice helps restore the confidence of victims and those affected by crime as well as helping offenders to understand the impact of their actions.
Richard volunteers in his local area by driving the community mini-bus and coordinating and participating in the volunteer work to establish a local nature reserve.
